Can Global Warming Be Prevented - 1077 Words

CAN GLOBAL WARMING BE PREVENTED? New researches conducted have shown an increase in earth’s surface temperature. Over the past 100 years, earth’s temperature has risen between 0.4 and 0.8 °C (Live Science, 2015). This has become an issue amongst scientist as they are convinced that the earth is heating up. Despite this consensus, people still take the issue of Global warming lightly. Yet, lately, we’ve witnessed erratic weather changes; increased air pollution, rising sea levels and threats on ecosystems. Earth’s average temperature is increasing as a result of human activities. With the way things are going, reversing the global warming trend is becoming Improbable. Global warming, as aforementioned, is the increase in earth’s average temperature due to the release of greenhouse gasses people burn as fossil fuels. Greenhouse gasses like carbon dioxide, methane and Nitrous oxide gasses are compounds that are able to trap heat in the atmosphere.(Environmental Protection Agency, 2015). This is called the â€Å"greenhouse effect†. Solar energy emitted from the sun is absorbed at the earth’s surface and is then re-radiated back into the atmosphere as heat (infrared-radiation). Greenhouse gasses absorb and trap some of this infrared-radiation on the earth’s atmosphere which causes the earth to warm up. It’s like they place a ‘warm blanket’ on the earth. Every day, millions of tons of greenhouse gasses are emitted and they are all trapping lots and lots of infrared-radiation onShow MoreRelatedSave the Earth and Save Life Essay1102 Words   |  5 Pagesamount of change can save it. Scientists estimate th at just 20,000 to 25,000 polar bears survive in the wild,†(Walker, Gabrielle and Sir David King). Global warming is affecting not only polar bears but also many other species that are going extinct. Habitats are destroyed and islands are invaded by the sea water, slowly sinking. Every living thing and environment on this earth is affected by global warming. However, many decide to ignore such facts and choose to believe that global warming will positivelyRead MoreGlobal Warming Position Paper985 Words   |  4 Pages Although some believe that Global Warming has been created due to manmade pollutants, I believe that Global Warming is a natural process that has been accelerated due to the excess emissions of pollutants from nature and manmade devices into the atmosphere. The world has been said to be on a cycle of global warming and cooling, this process can neither be stopped nor prevented, but it can be accelerated with the addition of non-natural emissions from autom obiles and factories; because thisRead MoreThe Causes of Global Warming Essay567 Words   |  3 PagesGlobal warming is an issue that threatens the world, but is often overlooked. This problem is an increase in the earths temperature due to fossil fuels, industries, agricultural, and man-made causes. This results in the release of greenhouse gases. As climate changes occur in our earths atmosphere buildup of greenhouse gases. There are many problems that are causing global warming, and if they are not taken serious or at least prevented there are going to be some severe issues in the near futureRead MoreWhat Individuals Can Do To Lessen The Effects of Global Warming 808 Words   |  4 PagesIndividual Canadians have the ability to lessen the effects of global warming and cease climate change before it becomes catastrophic in the near future. This can only happen if we are part of the solution and not furthering the growth of pollution and carbon dioxide emissions. Now what is g lobal warming? Global warming is an increase in the earths temperature due to fossil fuels, industry, and agricultural processes caused by human, natural, and other gas emissions. This results in an increasedRead MoreThe Negative Effect of Global Warming892 Words   |  4 PagesThe idea of global warming has been drilled into many childrens heads’ starting 5th grade. From there, it has never stopped. The idea that the ozone layer is breaking up around the North Pole is scary, and there isn’t anything society can do about it. It’s not like an illness or cut where a doctor can prescribe medicine or put a Band-Aid on it. It’s a real global disaster. It’s a global disaster that could potentially ruin Earth. Global warming is not only affecting people’s health, but it is alsoRead MoreClimate Change : The Eco Footprint Lab980 Words   |  4 Pagesof the greenhouse gases. The greenhouse effect allows sunlight to warm Earth, by trapping some of th e heat waves (Global Warming Is Human Caused). There is a balance of radiating energy between the Earth and space (IPCC). When fossil fuels are burned, extra gases are release. This buildup causes too much heat to be trapped inside the atmosphere, leading to global warming (Global Warming Is Human Caused). This semester, our environmental science class, completed labs that introduced us to various topicsRead MoreGlobal Warming And Its Effect On Climate Change Essay1362 Words   |  6 PagesThe global warming is a controversial and debated topic, but it is no surprise to most people. When we think about our future, we only think about our personal life effects and benefits. Global warming is also an important and troubling situation going on the planet earth. Changes in climate can be resulted from both human activities and natural. Human activities involve careless actions and burning fuels. On the other side, natural events cause climate change by volcanic eruptions. Human activit iesRead MoreGlobal Warming : Causes And Effects1206 Words   |  5 PagesGlobal warming is a naturally occurring phenomenon within our planet that needs to be reduced because it is affecting us in many harmful ways. It is one of the most current and widely discussed factors. It has been impacting us negatively in ways such as biodiversity and climate conditions. Several current trends clearly demonstrate that global warming is directly impacting on rising sea levels, the melting of ice caps and significant worldwide climate changes. Over the years, scientists have conductedRead MoreNegative Effects of Global Warming on Earth819 Words   |  4 Pagesalso adds additional risks to our food supplies scientists say they are already seeing the harmful effects in some regions. Polar ice melting would become another major affect of global warming if it isn’t stopped which could cause problems for many lives on Earth not just human beings. Thesis Statement Global warming is a negative affect on Earth what it affects; are animals to become extinct including polar bears also many other animals, diseases to spread in areas never been/seen before, andRead MoreGlobal Warming And Its Effects On The Environment Essay1516 Words   |  7 PagesSome people say global warming is caused by human activity, others say global warming doesn’t even exist. Some people claim that the climate is changing for the worse. They believe that humans are the primary cause of these changes, especially the increase in temperature, caused by the burning of fossil fuels. They believe that the temperature changes are causing glaciers to melt. They claim that the melting of ice masses leads to a higher sea level and worsening conditions for Arctic animals, as
